남동유럽 폭염 수십년 만에 최악 치달아

폭염이 남동 유럽을 태우며 산불이 심화되고 있는 가운데 주민들은 목요일 해안가, 공중 분수대, 냉방시설로 몰려가 약간의 안도감을 찾았다.

그리스 일부 지역의 기온이 40도 이상 상승하자 아테네 기상 전문가들은 이번 폭염이 다음 주까지 이어질 것으로 예상하며 1980년대 중반 이후 아테네에서 가장 심각한 폭염으로 기록될 것이라고 말했다. 

Southeast Europe heat wave set to be among worst in decades

A heat wave scorched southeast Europe on Thursday, intensifying wildfires and sending residents flocking to the coast, public fountains and air-conditioned locations to find some relief.

Temperatures rose above 40 C (104 F) in parts of Greece and across much of the region. Weather experts in Athens said they expected the heat wave to extend into next week, making it one of the most severe recorded in the country since the mid-1980s.
